National Weather Summary for Thursday, March 31, 2016

Showers and thunderstorms will continue across portions of the Southeast through the day. Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, isolated tornadoes, and small hail will be possible. A cold front entering the northwestern Gulf of Mexico Friday afternoon will bring the potential for wind gusts to gale force and rough seas.

Region 1

Ongoing showers and thunderstorms across southern Mississippi are expected to continue eastward over Region 1 through this afternoon. Conditions are sufficient for the development and redevelopment of severe thunderstorms. These storms will pose a risk for damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, isolated tornadoes, and small hail.

Region 2

A cold front entering the northwestern Gulf of Mexico early Friday afternoon will allow for south-southwesterly winds of 15-25 miles per hour. Behind the cold front, winds will veer out of the north-northwest at 25-30 miles per hour with gusts in excess of 35 miles per hour. In addition to the elevated winds, seas will build to 8-10 feet. These conditions will continue through Friday night  before improving on Saturday.
