Light to moderate snow showers will continue across portions of the Northeast to the Ohio Valley ahead of a large upper level trough.

Snow showers will continue across Region 1 through the morning with squalls and lake effect snow bands developing this afternoon and persisting through early Friday morning. 6 to 12 inches of snow will be possible with locally higher amounts, in addition to winds of 15-25 miles per hour.
Region 1
Snow showers will continue across Region 2 through early Wednesday evening. Total snowfall accumulations of 2-4 inches with locally higher amounts in excess of 6 inches will be possible. In addition, winds of 10-20 miles per hour with gusts in excess of 25 miles per hour and wind chills between 0 and 10 F will be possible. In higher elevations, snowfall accumulations in excess of 8 inches will be possible. These snowfall accumulations, particularly in mountainous areas, will likely lead to hazardous travel conditions.
Further south, widespread snowfall accumulations of 4-6 inches can be expected across portions of western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, southwestern Virginia, and southeastern West Virginia. Locally higher amounts in excess of 10 inches will be possible. Snowfall totals of 8-12 inches can be expected in higher elevations, with amounts possibly exceeding 20 inches near the highest peaks and iin mountain passes. In addition to this snowfall, high winds in the mountains will lead to near zero wind chills above 4,000 feet. This will lead to very hazardous travel conditions, particularly in the higher elevations. Conditions will not begin to improve until late Wednesday at the earliest. Across portions of JKentucky, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia, widespread snowfall accumulations of 1-3 inches with locally higher amounts will be possible.
