A Windy Endeavour: The Arbuckle Wind Farm

Thousands of fellow University of Oklahoma fans made the trip from Oklahoma to Dallas this past weekend for the annual Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl (no need to discuss the outcome). As we made our way down I-35, I received several calls and texts inquiring about one of Oklahoma's newest wind farms, the Arbuckle/Rose Rock Wind Farm.
Here are some quick facts about one of Oklahoma's newest farms:
- Located along I-35, approximately 12 miles north of Ardmore, OK
- Encompasses nearly 13,000 acres in portions of both Murray and Carter County
- 100MW of installed capacity via 50 Vestas V110-2.0MW turbines
- Developed by EDP Renewables North America
- Responsible for the creation of 200 construction jobs
- Power purchased by Lincoln Electric Systems of Lincoln, NE
- Will be responsible for an annual power generation total of over 280,000 MWh - good for nearly 23,000 homes
- Estimated to go on-line in January of 2016
Arbuckle Wind is just one of nearly 200 wind farms across North America WDT provides both its WeatherOps asset protection and SkyWise data services to. It's certainly exciting to see one of these farms go up less than an hour from our HQ in Norman and thus I couldn't resist stopping to take a few pictures:
