There will be a marginal risk for strong to severe thunderstorms, as well as a threat for excessive rainfall and flooding on Thursday from the Southern Plains through Southwest Texas.
An upper level low is forecast to move eastward over the Southern Plains today. Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated across portions of western and northwestern Texas into Southwestern Oklahoma. Strong to marginally severe thunderstorms will be possible with the primary hazards hail and winds in excess of 60 mph. In addition, heavy rainfall is also anticipated due to a tropical airmass. 2-4 inches of rain with locally higher amounts in excess of 5 inches will be possible. Flash flooding will be possible throughout the day.
