There is a slight risk for strong thunderstorms across portions of the Southern Plains, as well as a threat for excessive rainfall, on Thursday.
The upper low is forecast to move eastward with a leeside surface low forming east of the Rockies. Scattered thunderstorms are anticipated from Western Texas into Western Oklahoma. The primary threats with these thunderstorms are small hail and wind gusts in excess of 40 mph.
Heavy rainfall is also anticipated across the Southern Plains as gulf moisture is in place. Rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches are possible with isolated amounts in excess of 5 inches. Flash flooding will be possible throughout the day.
