Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday across the Central Great Plains. Locally heavy rainfall is possible across the Northern Great Plains.
A surface low will develop over the Northern Great Plains Tuesday afternoon and track into the Upper Mississippi Valley by Tuesday evening. An associated cold front will extend into the Central Plains. Thunderstorms are expected to be ongoing ahead of the front Tuesday morning and will increase in coverage and intensity throughout the day as the cold front pushes slowly southeast. Thunderstorms will have the potential to become severe with damaging winds being the primary hazard. A few storms may produce large hail. The most likely time for severe weather will be during the late afternoon and early evening.
Another round of heavy rainfall is expected as the slow moving surface low remains in the region. Showers and thunderstorms will be ongoing for much of the day on Tuesday. Widespread accumulations of 1-2 inches, with locally higher amounts expected.
