Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Friday afternoon and evening across the Northern Rockies. Scattered thunderstorms are likely across Florida.
A potent shortwave trough is forecast to lift across the Rockies on Friday with strong upper level winds overspreading an area with modest instability. Showers and thunderstorms, and some severe, are expected along the Idaho/Montana border and also southern Alberta before moving quickly off to the Northeast. Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary hazards, but there will be a low tornado threat through the evening.
A stationary front across Florida will bring widely scattered thunderstorms to portions of the state. Frequent lightning and heavy rain will be the main hazards, in addition to the potential for strong winds.
