Strong thunderstorms are possible Friday across the Midwest. Excessive rainfall is possible from New Mexico to the Southern Plains.

Midwest: Thunderstorms are forecast to develop along a cold front during the late
afternoon and evening hours as it moves southward across the Great Lakes region
westward into the Central Plains. Strong to perhaps a few severe storms can be expected,
with gusty winds and hail the main threats. Thunderstorm activity should weaken after
sunset due to the loss of daytime heating.

New Mexico to Southern Plains: An upper level disturbance moving into the south-central
United States will interact with deep moisture across the region to bring periods of showers
and thunderstorms throughout the day. Rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches, isolated 3+ inches,
will be possible and may lead to an increased threat of flooding across the region.
