Strong thunderstorms are possible Friday for the Central Plains. Locally heavy rainfall is expected across northern portions of New Mexico and Texas.
Central Plains/Midwest: There is a chance for strong thunderstorms to develop in the Central Plains into the Upper Missouri Valley on Friday. Moderate instability will be present along a weak frontal boundary that extends through this region, with moderate wind shear in place from the backside of an upper-level trough pushing through the region. There is a possibility of storms firing along this boundary during the late afternoon hours and fizzle out during the evening hours. These storms will have a chance to produce damaging winds gusts and isolated severe hail.
North NM/TX: A weak upper-level shortwave ejecting through the backside of the broad upper-level trough will be the focus for heavy showers and thunderstorm development across North NM/TX. Ample moisture present in this region will bring a slight chance for excessive rainfall of 1-2 inches with locally higher amounts of 3 inches.
