by WeatherOps, on Jul 27, 2015 4:41:31 AM
Severe thunderstorms are possible Monday for the Great Plains and Upper Midwest. Heavy rain is possible for the Northern Plains and Florida.
Great Plains to Upper Midwest: A potent upper level trough is forecast to move across the Northern Rockies today while a surface low pressure area deepens over the Northern Plains before its associated cold front surges eastward late in the day. Thunderstorms are expected to develop across the High Plains, from Montana southward into Colorado, during the afternoon before spreading eastward during the evening and overnight hours. Conditions are expected to be favorable for severe thunderstorms, potentially widespread, containing damaging winds, large hail, and even a few tornadoes.
Northern Plains:Showers and thunderstorms on the backside of a deepening low pressure area will be possible across portions of Montana throughout the day. Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, isolated 5+ inches, will be possible. By the afternoon and evening hours, the heavy rainfall threat will spread eastward across the Northern Plains and into western Minnesota by late evening/overnight. Heavy rainfall will be possible in this region as well, and accumulations could reach 1-2 inches, isolated 3+ inches.
Florida:Deep moisture is likely to remain in place across west-central and southwest Florida today, and a low pressure trough will be a focus for shower and thunderstorm activity. Additionally, a developing wave of low pressure may help enhance rainfall amounts which could reach 1-3 inches, isolated 4+ inches. Most rain activity should occur from late morning through evening.
