Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across portions of the Central Plains into the afternoon and evening. A cold front is forecast to extend southward from the central Dakotas to Nebraska with increasing southerly winds ahead of the front. This southerly flow will lead to increasing dewpoints throughout the day with increasing southwesterly flow aloft and veering low-level winds with height. Into the afternoon, daytime heating along with the increasing dewpoints will destabilize the atmosphere leading rise to thunderstorm development into the afternoon. With the low-level wind profile, storms will likely be supercellular in nature capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall across the region.
