Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon and evening across the Southeast.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to develop across portions of the southeast on Tuesday, with large hail, tornados, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall possible. Into the morning, severe thunderstorms will be ongoing apart portions of Kentucky and into West Virginia and Virginia into the morning hours. Outflow from this thunderstorm complex will add to the potent instability forecast at the surface into the afternoon hours, with moist dewpoints along with convective heating. Steep lapse rates are forecast aloft as well as strong midlevel flow. These elements will favor supercell development capable of large hail throughout the area. Additional, with enhanced low-level shear will lead to a conditional threat for tornados within developing supercells, with the greatest risk across eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. Other impacts from thunderstorms throughout the area on Tuesday will include damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall. Across the remainder of the southeast, strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible into the afternoon and evening hours. Primary impacts possible within thunderstorms across the area include damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.
