Helping Business Weather the Storm

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Saturday, July 4, 2015

by WeatherOps, on Jul 3, 2015 10:36:06 AM

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday across the Lower Mississippi Valley and Great Plains. Strong thunderstorms are possible over the Great Basin.

Lower Mississippi Valley: A weak upper level disturbance moving into the region should help initiate thunderstorms across the area on Saturday. Outflow boundaries from thunderstorms on Friday may help enhance some of the activity, with strong to severe storms possible. Damaging winds and hail will likely be the main threats.

Great Plains: A surface trough east of the Rockies combined with increasing instability and favorable upper level winds will bring a threat of strong to severe thunderstorms across portions of the Great Plains, for an area stretching from the U.S.-Canada border southward into western Oklahoma. The main severe timing will be during the afternoon and evening, possibly later across portions of Montana and North Dakota. Damaging winds and hail will be the main threats.

Great Basin: An upper level disturbance combined with modest instability should bring scattered thunderstorms to the region on Saturday afternoon before tapering off during the evening hours. Conditions could be favorable for a few strong thunderstorms capable of producing gusty winds.
