Severe thunderstorms are likely Wednesday from the Northern Plains into the Midwest.
Moderate to extreme instability will be in place this afternoon from the Northern Plains into the Midwest, particularly across the Missouri Valley with dewpoints from the upper 60s to the lower 70s. 40-45 knots of deep layer wind shear and southerly winds at the surface will aid in the development of a few discrete thunderstorms and then quickly evolve into a larger complex. The primary risk will be straight line winds as the complex progresses eastward. The potential for large hail and damaging winds will still be present through the evening and overnight hours.
