Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday across the Ohio Valley and into New England, as well as the Northern High Plains.

Ohio Valley & Northeast: An upper level trough and a cold front will move from the Ohio Valley into the Northeast on Tuesday with a moist unstable air mass expected across the ahead of the advancing cold front. Development will likely occur along the front throughout the day as large scale lift will be limited across the region. As the front continues eastward into the evening period a weak mid level jet could allow for isolated supercells. Primary hazards anticipated with thunderstorm development are likely to include large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 70 mph are possible by Monday evening should supercells develop across the region.

Northern High Plains: Strong zonal flow across the region on Tuesday combined with a developing trough and moderate moisture should allow for the development of showers and thunderstorms during the late afternoon to early evening. Moderate instability and low level shear should provide enough energy to allow for isolated supercells that will continue into the evening with the primary threats likely to be large hail, damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and heavy rain.
