Severe thunderstorms are expected Friday across the Northern Plains. Heavy rainfall is expected across the Mississippi Valley.

Northern Plains: Thunderstorms are likely to be ongoing during the morning hours on Friday across parts of North Dakota, with this activity shifting eastward across Minnesota by early afternoon. In the wake of the early thunderstorm activity, dew point values are forecast to return across the region with steep lapse rates aloft resulting in moderate to strong instability across the region. Storms are expected to develop over the higher terrain during the afternoon hours and spread southeastward. While most activity is anticipated to be as a convective complex, some storms may develop during the early evening hours as isolated cells. These isolated thunderstorms will have the potential to produce damaging winds, large hail, elevated wind gusts and perhaps a tornado or two. After upscale growth occurs, the tornado threat will diminish with mainly a wind, hail, and heavy rain threat.

Mississippi Valley: Remnants of Tropical Depression Bill will continue to track to the NE through Missouri and into Southern Illinois bringing heavy rainfall to the region. Accumulations in excess of 3 inches is expected, with localized heavier amounts possible. Flooding of low-lying areas, roads and streams could occur.
