Severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday from the Midwest into the Northeast, as well as the Northern Rockies into the Northern Great Plains. Heavy rainfall is likely for eastern Texas.

Midwest into the Northeast: A cold front across this region will act as a focus for thunderstorm development during the afternoon on Tuesday. Conditions will be favorable for some of these thunderstorms to become severe. Damaging winds will be the primary hazard. A few storms may also produce large hail. While the tornado threat appears low, an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out.

Eastern Texas: Heavy rainfall from a tropical low is expected to begin on Monday and continue into Tuesday. In addition to Monday’s rainfall, another two to five inches of rain are expected with locally higher amounts in excess of ten inches possible in some locations. This heavy rainfall will result in flash flooding in flood-prone areas. Two-day rainfall totals between Monday and Tuesday will likely be 3 to 7 inches widespread, with isolated amounts in excess of 12 inches possible. In addition to this heavy rainfall, gusty winds of 40-50 MPH with higher gusts will be possible along the coast. A few tornadoes will also be possible.
