Helping Business Weather the Storm

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Thursday, May 28, 2015

by WeatherOps, on May 27, 2015 10:03:26 AM

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday across the Central and Southern Plains. Heavy rainfall is possible across Northwest Texas and Southwest Oklahoma.

High Plains: An upper level trough will continue to progress eastward across the Rocky Mountains on Thursday. Meanwhile a surface low pressure area will lift northward into the central High Plains, with a long dry line expected to extend southward from it all the way into northern Mexico. Scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop along the dryline during the afternoon and evening hours. Conditions will be favorable for a few severe storms, with damaging winds and large hail expected to be the primary threats.

Northwest Texas & Southwest Oklahoma: A portion of the Southern Plains stretching from northwest Texas into southwest Oklahoma is expected to receive periods of showers and thunderstorms, especially during the late evening on Thursday and into the overnight hours. A complex of thunderstorms could develop and provide prolonged periods of rainfall, with 1-3 inches possible. Again, due to recent heavy rains, this may allow for a continued threat of flooding.
