Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible on Thursday across West Texas and the North Carolina Coast.

A weak upper level trough moving into West Texas will act as a focus for thunderstorm development over West Texas. As they move eastward, they will move into an environment favorable for severe thunderstorm development. Hail larger than one inch and damaging winds in excess of 50 miles per hour will be possible. Though the tornado threat is low, an isolated tornado or two will be possible. During the evening, storms will merge into a line with the main threats becoming damaging winds and heavy rain.

A weak cold front will move through the Carolinas and Virginia on Thursday, allowing for showers and thunderstorms. Large hail and damaging winds in excess of 50 miles per hour will be the main threats, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The threat should end after sunset as the cold front moves offshore.
