Helping Business Weather the Storm

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Thursday, May 21, 2015

by WeatherOps, on May 20, 2015 10:00:27 AM

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday across West Texas and the Coastal Carolinas.

Southwest Texas: A decaying surface front across the Big Bend region of Texas on Thursday should act a trigger for the development of isolated strong to severe thunderstorms by the mid afternoon. Continued strong moisture and instability across this region due to steady southeast flow will likely allow storms to develop that will then very slowly drift to the north to northeast into the early evening period. Primary threats from thunderstorms across this region will likely be heavy rain, flash flooding, large hail and damaging winds with an isolated tornado possible.

Coastal Carolinas: Weak low pressure system and a cold front moving across the Coastal Carolinas on Thursday will move into moderately unstable airmass with strong moisture in place across the region. Passage of this front should allow for development of scattered showers and thunderstorms with isolated severe storms possible. Primary severe threats across this area will likely be large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain.
