Helping Business Weather the Storm

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Saturday, May 16, 2015

by WeatherOps, on May 15, 2015 9:50:57 AM

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday for portions of the Great Plains.

Isolated to scattered severe storms are forecast across portions of the Great Plains on Saturday. As an upper-level trough of low pressure ejects across the area, with strong upper-level winds, the surface low pressure across southwestern Nebraska is forecast to lift to the northeast. Ahead of the low pressure system and the associated frontal boundaries, a conditionally unstable environment is forecast dependent upon recovery of the atmosphere after early morning convection. With these factors in place, during the afternoon hours low-level and deep shear is anticipated to increase and be favorable for supercell development. Primary impacts of large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes, frequent lighting, and heavy rain leading to flash flooding are possible. Into the late afternoon and evening, storms are likely to evolve and become more linear in nature with an increase threat for damaging winds while other previous impacts remain.
