Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday for the Southern High Plains.
High pressure over the Eastern CONUS will keep a lid on much of the country on Saturday with Friday’s cold front offshore of the East and Gulf Coasts. One exception will exist across the Southern High Plains where the passage of a shortwave trough through the region may promote shower and thunderstorm development from Northwest Texas into Southwest Kansas. Return moisture in the form of upper 50’s/lower 60’s dewpoints may even realize pockets of moderate instability. This will support at least a small risk for an isolated severe thunderstorm or two with a risk for large hail, damaging winds, and even a tornado or two.
