Hazardous Weather Outlook for Thursday, April 9, 2015
by WeatherOps, on Apr 8, 2015 3:27:06 PM
Severe thunderstorms are likely Thursday from the Midwest to the Lower Great Lakes. There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms from the Southern Plains to the Great Lakes. Moderate snow is likely for the Northern Plains and Northwestern Great Lakes.
Upper Midwest/Lower Great Lakes: Advancing low pressure trough and cold front will allow for another enhanced risk of severe weather on Thursday. Although previous thunderstorm activity will be ongoing and cloud cover will be present, all of which could hinder development, fresh initiation from daytime destabilization is expected, particularly along and head of the front, allowing for an enhanced risk of very large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes for this area.
Great Lakes through Texas: Ongoing storm activity from Wednesday, along with some new activity formed in relation to the cold front will present a broad region of possible severe weather. Along the entirety of this system, large hail and damaging wind gusts will be possible, with some tornadoes not out of the question for this activity.
Northern Plains into Great Lakes: As low pressure moves into the region, expect snowfall to also be possible north of the severe risk where much colder temperatures are present. 4-8 inches of snowfall with isolated heavier amounts are forecast.
