Hazardous Weather Outlook for Tuesday, March 3, 2015
by WeatherOps, on Mar 2, 2015 3:37:20 PM
Moderate to heavy snow is possible Tuesday for the Central Rockies and from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. Moderate to heavy freezing rain and sleet is possible from the Midwest to the Northeast.
Great Lakes to the Northeast: Low pressure will dive southward out of Southern Canada late Monday and will shift eastward on Tuesday allowing for light to moderate snow from the Great Lakes region eastward to the Northeast. Accumulations will average 3 to 6 inches in most locations with isolated locations possibly nearing 8 inches.
Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic: As low pressure moves eastward from the Great Lakes to the Northeast a secondary low pressure system moving into the Central Plains will push a warm front northward allowing for the development of significant freezing rain and sleet from Chicago eastward through Central New York and southward through Virginia. Accumulations will average a tenth to up to half an inch of ice on Tuesday and will likely create significant disruptions in travel and series of power outages across the region. The heaviest icing is currently expected across Western Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and parts of West Virginia.
Central Rockies: Light to moderate snow will remain possible on Tuesday as low pressure slowly exits to the east into the Southern Plains. 4 to 8 inches of snow will be possible across the high terrain of Utah, Colorado, and Southern Wyoming.
