Hazardous Weather Outlook for Saturday, February 14, 2015
by WeatherOps, on Feb 13, 2015 3:36:50 PM
Moderate to heavy snow is likely Saturday across the Northeast. Light to moderate snow is possible across the Northern Plains.
Northeast:Low pressure will deepen across the Mid-Atlantic region on Saturday as it pivots eastward and into the Northeast. At the same time, an arctic front will blanket much of the eastern CONUS in sub-freezing temperatures. Thus, any precipitation that falls should fall entirely in the form of snow. As low pressure continues to deepen throughout the day, light to moderate snow will expand across the Ohio valley and Northeast. Accumulations should remain light and in the range of 2 to 4 inches through the daytime hours. However, by nightfall expect heavier snow activity to develop across Upstate New York and the New England Coast. Amounts during the overnight hours may exceed 8 inches from Massachusetts into Southern Maine by sunrise on Sunday.
Northern Plains:Further west, an upper disturbance is expected to dig southward and into the Northern Plains. Amounts of 2 to 4 inches can be expected across portions of the Dakotas and Montana Saturday night with perhaps locally higher amounts approaching 6 inches across North Dakota.
