Hazardous Weather Outlook for Saturday, January 24, 2015
by WeatherOps, on Jan 23, 2015 4:05:02 PM
Moderate to heavy snowfall will be possible across portions of the Mid Atlantic, Northeast, and New England regions along the I-95 corridor on Saturday; light freezing rain and sleet will be possible. Light to moderate snowfall will be possible across the Upper Midwest.
Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and into New England: Low pressure will track off the U.S. East Coast by early Saturday while strengthening. As this occurs precipitation will track through the Mid-Atlantic and up through the Northeast and into New England by Saturday night. As is typical with these types of set ups, there remains questions regarding the exact track of the low, which will have profound effects on the quantity and type of precipitation. That being said, confidence is increasing that regions along the I-95 corridor could see moderate to heavy amounts of snowfall by through late Saturday evening. A light wintry mix will also be possible for areas generally from NYC southward into the Washington DC Metro area. Additional statements will be issued later today through Saturday with the latest details.
Upper Midwest: A Clipper will approach the Upper Midwest late Saturday night and into Sunday, allowing for light to moderate amounts of snowfall of around 2 to 4”, which will likely lead to some travel issues.
