Hazardous Weather Outlook for Thursday, January 22, 2015
by WeatherOps, on Jan 21, 2015 3:25:34 PM
Widespread heavy rain and isolated to scattered thunderstorms are likely on Thursday across the Gulf Coast and Northern Gulf. Moderate snowfall will be possible from Southeast New Mexico and West Texas during the morning and afternoon hours.
Gulf Coast & Northern Gulf:As the upper-level disturbance impacting New Mexico today crosses Texas on Thursday, it is forecast to induce the formation of a low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico. This will lead to moderate and heavy rains, along with some scattered to widespread thunderstorm activity, from central Texas eastward across much of the Gulf Coast region, extending out into the waters of the northern Gulf. Rainfall totals of 1.5 to 3.0 inches are likely in areas impacted by the heaviest rain and thunderstorms. At this time, widespread severe storms are not anticipated, though a few stronger storms are certainly possible in the Gulf.
New Mexico into West Texas: The snowstorm affecting the southern High Plains today will wind down on Thursday, but not before dropping some more moderate snowfall across the region in the morning and early afternoon hours. Between sunrise and mid-afternoon, snow totals of 3 to 6 inches will be common across southeastern New Mexico, into West Texas and the mountains of the Trans-Pecos region.
Elsewhere, snowfall in the Northeast will diminish through the morning, and should mostly dissipate by the afternoon hours.
