by WeatherOps, on Jan 12, 2015 4:00:20 PM
Light to moderate snow will be possible Tuesday across the Southern Plains. Across the Southern Plains and Appalachians, a wintry mix is possible through the morning; light icing is also possible.
Southern Plains:Additional snow is expected to develop across the Four Corners and into the Southern Plains on Tuesday as low pressure and an associated frontal boundary advances southward into the region. Activity will spread eastward from Colorado and New Mexico and into W Texas, portions of SW Kansas and NW Oklahoma. Accumulations of 1-4 inches could occur, with most areas seeing 1-2 inches through the morning hours.
Southern Appalachians & Mid-Atlantic: As the frontal boundary pushes offshore in the east and precipitation begins to taper off, a weak low pressure trough is expected to develop through the region across the Southern Appalachians and into Virginia and North Carolina. Surface temperatures will remain at or slightly below freezing aiding in chances for a wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow through the overnight hours on Monday and into Tuesday. While significant accumulations are not anticipated at this time, localized heavier accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch could occur.
