Light to moderate snow is likely Tuesday for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; lake effect enhancement is possible along the south shore of Lake Superior. Snowfall will continue for the California Mountains and in other areas of California, rainfall will continue with a threat of flooding and mudslides.
Michigan Upper Peninsula: The low pressure area that was moving out of the central U.S. on Monday will continue northeastward into the Great Lakes region on Tuesday, bringing periods of snow to the Michigan Upper Peninsula. Snowfall accumulations of 2-6 inches are expected across much of the region, with locally higher amounts possible along the south shore of Lake Superior due to lake effect enhancement.
California Mountains: Snowfall will continue across the Sierra Nevadasand far southern Cascades of California on Tuesday. Snow accumulations of 3-6 inches are anticipated, with around 12 inches possible for more elevated locations.
Pacific Northwest: Periods of rain are forecast to continue across western California, spreading southward towards southern California, on Tuesday as a cold front moves inland. Rainfall amounts of 0.50 to 1.00 inch will be possible, with locally higher amounts. While these rainfall amounts are not generally excessive, a continued flooding/mudslide threat will persist for areas that have received recent heavy rains.
