Scattered showers and possibly some heavy rain is possible for portions of California on Tuesday. Light freezing rain, sleet, and snow will be possible across the Central Appalachians and Northeast.

An area of low pressure off the coast of California will move into the Great Basin region with widespread shower activity across California. Heavy rain with amounts of 1.5 to 2.5 inches will be possible with isolated higher amounts and heavier amounts in higher terrain. Flash flooding and runoff will be possible.
Wintry precipitation will shift across the Eastern US. From the Central Appalachians through New York, sleet and freezing rain will be possible. Freezing rain amounts will remain around a tenth of an inch. From New York to Maine, 2-4 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts, will be possible.
