A major lake effect snow is likely Monday across the Great Lakes. Moderate snow is likely for portions of the Ohio Valley into Southeastern Canada. Strong thunderstorms are possible for portions of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Heavy rain is likely for portions of Alabama and Georgia.

An area of low pressure will intensify over New England this afternoon and evening. As it deepens, arctic air will surge east across the Great Lakes. Snow will continue into Tuesday with 1-2 feet of snow possible in some areas. An area of low pressure will move northward from the Southeast into Southeastern Canada. Moderate snow will spread across the Ohio Valley into Southeastern Canada. 2-4 inches of snow, with a narrower band of 3-6 inches of snow will be possible. Across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, scattered strong to severe thunderstorms with a low tornado threat will be possible ahead of a strong cold front. Areas of heavy rain are expected across Alabama and Georgia as an area of low pressure deepens and lifts northeast.
