Hazardous Weather Outlook for Wednesday, October 22, 2014
by WeatherOps, on Oct 21, 2014 3:19:36 PM
General showers and thunderstorms are possible Wednesday for portions of the Central Plains. Heavy rain and flash flooding will be possible for portions of the Pacific Northwest and New England.
Central Plains:
A trough of low pressure will develop through the Northern Rockies and advance into the Plains on Wednesday. With moisture returning into the region, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Dakotas and southward into Kansas and parts of Oklahoma/Texas. While severe weather is not currently anticipated, an isolated strong to severe storm could occur during the afternoon hours in the Southern Plains where moisture and instability are highest. If storms become severe, potential risks should be isolated to damaging winds.
Pacific Northwest:
Rain and showers will continue through the Pacific Northwest as low pressure slowly lifts further northward into the Gulf of Alaska. Additional heavy rainfall is expected through the region with accumulations reaching over 4 inches in Western Oregon and extreme Northwestern California. Localized flooding will be possible.
Northeast: Low pressure system moving across the northeast will allow for heavy rain over 2 inches across parts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine on Wednesday. Localized flooding will be possible.
