Hazardous Weather Outlook for Tuesday, September 30, 2014
by WeatherOps, on Sep 29, 2014 3:59:55 PM
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday for portions of the Central and Northern Plains. Heavy rain and thunderstorms possible for the Northern High Plains.
Central/Northern Plains: The Low will move from the High Plains to the Upper Missouri Valley and Northern Plains on Tuesday, and the associated front will slowly push east across the Northern and Central Plains. Ahead of the front, there is likely to be a marginal risk for some severe weather, with the greatest risk expected across eastern NE/ND. The main threat in that area will be for stronger storms that produce wind gusts over 45 mph and hail up to 1.0” in diameter, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out just yet. Further south, strong winds and medium to borderline-severe hail are possible in stronger storms across portions of KS into the TX/OK Panhandles.
Northern High Plains: As the surface Low shifts into the northern Plains, heavy rain is expected near the circulation center. The heaviest rain is currently expected between midnight and early afternoon, though some showers will likely linger, especially across western ND/SD and far eastern MT into the evening. Rainfall totals of 1-2” will be common, with some localized amounts of 2.5” or more certainly possible.
