There is a moderate risk of severe weather today across portions of the Plains and Midwest ahead of a shortwave trough moving across the Northern Plains. While thunderstorms have developed across the region, further development is likely this afternoon and tonight as instability increases. As thunderstorms develop, large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes will be possible. Perhaps the biggest concern will be the damaging wind potential as a widespread damaging wind potential is forecast.
