Showers and thunderstorms will continue today for the Eastern US with a marginal severe risk for the Central Appalachians to the Eastern Great Lakes. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible for portions of the Central and Northern Rockies.

There is a slight risk for thunderstorm development from the Carolinas and northward into Virginia. Though instability will be weak, a few thunderstorms will develop and have the potential to become severe with damaging winds being the primary threat. An embedded tornado, however, cannot be ruled out. Otherwise, heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue across the Eastern US with 4-6 inches of rain possible in some areas.
