Moderate Risk for Portions of Alabama and Mississippi

Written by WeatherOps | Apr 29, 2014 4:28:30 PM

There is a moderate risk for severe weather today for portions of Alabama and Mississippi. Below is the SPC moderate risk outline.

SPC Convective Outlook

The MCS currently over the Southeast is in the decaying stages. Even so, southerly winds will bring low level moisture northward, enhancing the instability across portions of Mississippi and Alabama. A mid level jet streak and an existing outflow boundary will enhance lift to allow for the development of thunderstorms. Strong shear of 50-75 knots of shear will allow for the development of supercells capable of producing large hail and tornadoes. Later tonight, storms will congeal into a squall line, decreasing the tornado threat, but increasing the damaging wind threat.
