Travel was dangerous Tuesday morning as freezing rain and sleet caused traffic accidents across the Houston area. In addition to the traffic problems, power outages were also being reported. As of 10am Tuesday morning, CenterPoint Energy reported 26,000 customers without power. Many of these outages were reported on the west and northwest side of Houston. Power outages forced one hospital to move patients to another hospital in the area. Most areas will see around a quarter of an inch of ice, but some areas could see up to three quarters of an inch.
In Houston, no serious problems were reported. Between midnight and 6am this morning, 19 accidents were reported. On rainy days, 37 accidents is considered average. No major impacts on flights in or out of Houston have been reported, but travelers are encouraged to check with their airlines.
