NORMAN, OK – February 11, 2013 - Weather Decision Technologies®, Inc. (WDT), President and CEO Michael D. Eilts, has been named one of 28 new Fellows of the American Meteorological Society, the nation's leading professional society for scientists in the atmospheric and related sciences.
The honor of Fellow is given to an individual for recognition of outstanding contributions to the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences, or their applications, during a substantial period of years. Only two-tenths of one percent of membership is approved as Fellow each year.
“It is a great honor to receive such a distinguished recognition by my peers in the weather enterprise,” said Mr. Eilts. “I’m proud to contribute to initiatives that further the atmospheric sciences while also benefiting businesses and the public on a global scale.”
Before founding WDT in 2000, Mike was employed with the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) for 18 years, the last 7 as Assistant Director. Mike has written over 75 papers in meteorological journals and conference proceedings and is internationally recognized for his knowledge of Doppler radar and its application to precipitation estimation and hydrology, severe weather warning and aviation hazard detection and prediction.
Under Mike’s leadership, WDT has become a global leader in providing state-of-the-science weather detection, nowcasting, and forecasting systems and services to our partners and customers. In 2011, the American Meteorological Society bestowed upon WDT, the Award for Outstanding Services to Meteorology. WDT has reached Inc. 500 status, has appeared on the Inc. 5000 list 6 times and is a 7-time OKC Metro 50 award winner. Inc’s Hire Power list ranks WDT in the top 10 for job generation in Oklahoma over the past 3 years.
Eilts is a Senior Executive Fellows Program Graduate from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and also holds a Master of Business Administration, from the University of Oklahoma. He has earned his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma.
